Sport and Entertainment Flooring Repairs

Gustafson Sport Floors is constantly following the latest in new options for the repair of such problems as “Dead Spots”, “Cupped” or “Crowned” boards, “Deformation”, “Sticky” or “Slippery” spots. In most cases, we can restore the floor to a solid performance level.

It should be pointed out that many performance issues that require repair tend to worsen through time and use. A problem that could be relatively easily and inexpensively solved now could become a costly and disruptive issue if left for a significant period of time.

Dryouts

Dryouts are just what they sound like – getting your sports flooring dried out after suffering water damage. Hardwood Sports floors, including the sub-flooring and performance structure, react significantly to the presence of water. When a floor has standing water on or under the floor, the floor can deform, separate from the sub-floor/performance structure, discolor or warp to the point that the floor will need repair. In addition, as gymnasiums tend to be kept warm and there is a lot of normal moisture present, Mold becomes a major issue when large quantities of water are present on or beneath your floor.

Like most problems, the longer the floor is wet the greater the damage that you can face. The best way to minimize the damage and thus the cost of restoration is to quickly dry-out the flooring.

We offer special drying systems that are designed to move air both above and below your floor to speed the drying process. Our experienced personnel work directly with you during the drying process to assure that every possible step is taken to minimize the damage to the floor system.

Clean, Screen and Recoat

The minimum annual maintenance recommended for sport flooring is the application of a single coat of polyurethane to the surface. Many organizations apply this “recoat” to their sport floors, but find that the results are often less satisfying than they had hoped for.

Gustafson Sport Floors offers a “Clean, Screen and Recoat” service designed to enhance and protect your sports flooring. Most sports floors are multi-use floors and there can be a build up of dirt, oils, sweat and other impurities that dull the finish. Many organizations simply cover the surface with one or two new coats of finish and then wonder why their sports floor surface is inconsistent, ranging from shinny to dull, or is tending to peal or pull away in certain areas.

We thoroughly clean, abrade and apply one or two coats of Bona Gym Finish or the finish of your choice. This assures the most consistent color and shine as well as insuring that the new finish will adhere to the existing floor.

Sand and Refinish Existing Sports Floors

Refinishing Most sports floors today have polyurethane finishes that require maintenance over time for top performance in both a real and a visual sense. Many organizations, though, primarily due to budget difficulties, resort to quick, staff applied annual recoats applying a single coat of finish to the existing finish. Over time, as polyurethane finishes darken turning first to a yellow-orange color and ultimately to a darker and darker brown. This change is enhanced by such things as sweat and other oils that adhere to the surface.

Gustafson Sport Floors offers a full line of resurfacing services including sanding, sealing, finishing and repainting of game lines, lettering and graphics. A mature sport floor that has gone for many years without a refinish can be restored to like-new with a Gustafson Refinish.

Here early scheduling is critical as most organizations can not afford to have their sports facilities out of commission for any length of time. This means that there is significant demand during times such as spring and summer breaks and the holiday season.
